PRODUCTION & LOGISTICS APPRENTICE

JOB SUMMARY 
This is a dynamic role that shares its time between our Production and Logistics Teams.  Production Team Members participate in all stages of nut butter and bar production, packaging prep, cleaning, and maintenance.  Logistics Team Members support all aspects of warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving, order fulfillment, material handling, cleaning, and maintenance.  As with all positions at Big Spoon Roasters, the responsibilities and duties for this position evolve on a continual basis depending on the needs and growth of the company. 

PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Nut Butter and Bar ingredient preparation, production, and packaging 

• Roasting, milling, and mixing nuts 

• Following recipes and Good Manufacturing Practices established by FDA 

• Recording daily batches and counting inventory 

• Tasting each batch to ensure that it aligns with the texture and flavor profile of each recipe 

• Completing a thorough daily cleaning of the production space, dishes, wares, equipment, tables, and general warehouse area 

• Inspecting products and notifying quality issues to operator or supervisor 

• Taping, labeling, adjusting, and palletizing cases 

• Facilities cleaning and recycling 

• Packing product on various types of equipment 

LOGISTICS RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Prepares packaging materials for daily production and fulfillment 

• Fills orders using a variety of different equipment and packaging configurations 

• Assists Logistics Team Lead in monitoring warehouse inventory for shortages, errors, and safety concerns 

• Performs Daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and cleaning of select production and warehouse equipment 

• Assists with contacting shipper(s) and arranging for pickup 

• Receives and logs inbound materials and files packing slips 

• Loads outbound materials onto trucks and freight vehicles 

• Operates and maintains stacker and other tools required for storage and fulfillment

• Previous food production experience, preferably in an FDA-inspected facility

• Able to make note of, and follow through with, verbal instructions

• Proficiency in basic mathematical skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and fractions to be able to calculate square footage, etc.? 

• Ability to read a ruler to within 1/16 of an inch and accurately use a calculator to measure and calculate effectively 

• Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new systems quickly 

• Ability to be self-directed when needed, but comfortable taking direction and asking questions 

• Positive attitude and a proactive approach to contributing to our collective success

• Exceptionally clean personal hygiene 

• Reliable transportation to and from work 

• Comfortable standing for long periods of time 

• Able to lift 60 pounds repeatedly during an 8-hour shift

• Hourly wage starts at $17
