The set was all important back in the heyday of film noir and German Expressionism. We’ll create some abstract, angular set designs for our own imagined theatrical masterworks by warping perspective and making dramatic geometric use of light and dark.
Part of the Smudge It! Some Shady Charcoal Workshops by Wendy Aldwyn. These sessions explore realism, surrealism and abstract applications of darkness and light, taking a look at the use of charcoal by contemporary artists as well as the old masters.
The first hour of each session, we’ll warm up by practicing basic charcoal techniques and tricks, and learning how to draw with the eraser.
The second hour we’ll work on finishing a themed charcoal drawing.
